Bhubaneswar , the Capital City of Orissa, is also known as the `City of Temples'
due to its splendid temples and Buddhist stupas. Legend has it that it once had 7,000 temples. Lingaraj Temple , Mukteshwar Temple and the Raja Rani Temple are famous for their architecture. The centuries-old Dhauli hills, a Buddhist monastry speak volumes about prevalence of Buddhist culture in the State.
Over the last few years, however, Bhubaneswar has moved beyond its image of
simply being the temple town. With corporate houses including blue chip IT
companies like Infosys, Satyam,TCS,Wipro, Mindtree and behemoths such as
Reliance, Visa Steel, Vedanta, Jindal, Birla and the Tatas setting up base here,
the City has been fast earning the tag of ` Corporate City '.
A planned city, Bhubaneswar has clean & fine, wide roads, with a nice
juxtaposition of modern and ancient buildings. The Capital also has an
international airport known as "The Biju Patnaik International Airport", and the
railway station, located at the heart of the City. The attractions near the
Capital City include Chandaka Forest , a sanctuary of wild elephants, and the
Nandankanan Zoo, which features a botanical garden and India 's largest lion and
tiger safari. There is also a network of caves bearing human evidence from the
first century BC - The Khandagiri, Udayagiri Caves.
